A person’s face is their unique identity, and hence it should receive the utmost care. Knowing that you have healthy, glowing facial skin is a confidence booster, whereas any blemishes, spots, and zits can cause concern. Almost all of us have had a momentous occasion – weddings, birthdays, graduation parties, etc. – ruined by those pesky pimples popping up on the face at the most inopportune moment.

The healthcare and cosmetics market is flooded with artificial, chemically induced products that advertise instant cure against Acne. Many customers are apprehensive of using these non-natural, sometimes potentially harmful synthetic formulations and treatments. On the other hand, there is an effective, time-tested alternative – Ayurveda.

Ayurveda provides completely natural remedies for Acne!

So let’s find out more about this relatively common but troublesome skin condition and how to get rid of Acne, the Ayurveda way!

What is Acne?

What is Acne?

Acne, also called ‘Yuvana Pidaka’ in Ayurveda, is a skin condition that starts during the early stages of puberty. The hormonal changes cause the sebaceous glands to produce excess sebum or oil in our skin pores. The extra oil mixes with dead cells and other pollutants, gets trapped in the hair follicle, and clogs or blocks the pores. These clogged skin pores cause the skin to break out in an inflammation known as Acne.

Are pimples and Acne the same?

Are pimples and Acne the same?

No, there is a difference between Acne and pimple. Acne is the actual skin condition, whereas pimples are just one of its symptoms. According to Ayurveda, there are two types of Acne – one with pus, which tends to leave marks on the face or the affected areas, and the other without pus.

What are the root causes of Acne?

What are the root causes of Acne?

According to Ayurveda, each individual has a distinct Prakruti (body type) established right at birth and comprises the interplay between the tridoshas, namely Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Ayurveda also states that the skin has seven layers and is not just located superficially but goes deeper into the body. Thus, most skin diseases, such as Acne, have deep-rooted origins. Some known causes include

sour-or-salty-like-panipuri-pickles

Pitta dusti happens due to the intake of food products that are hot in potency or taste sour or salty like panipuri, pickles, chips, bakery products, paneer, curd, raw tomato, etc. Consumption of these foods leads to blood vitiation, which reflects in the form of Acne, as there are many teja mahabhuta (fire element) pradhan (dominated) areas located on the face

Long-working-hours

Long working hours with minimal movement – especially IT professionals working long hours on the laptop can develop Acne on the back.

Accumulated-stress-or-anger

Accumulated stress or anger due to personal or professional problems can increase Pitta and cause blood disorders which may result in Acne

Excess-deposition-of-fat

Excess deposition of fat along with Pitta dusti can also cause Acne, although in these cases, the blood vitiation is on the lesser side

Irregular-menses

Irregular menses or early menses or menopause can also cause Acne due to Pitta dusti along with rasa dhatu (Plasma) vitiation

improper-lifestyle

Improper lifestyle with no exercise, late sleeping habits are some other essential factors for acne outbreaks

What are the effective Ayurvedic treatments for Acne?

What are the effective Ayurvedic treatments for Acne?

Ayurveda believes that conditions such as Acne are not just skin deep but go further into the body, and thus the treatments, both internal and external, must go to the root cause of the problem. The Ayurvedic skin treatments provide a natural, holistic, and unconventional approach to getting rid of Acne.

The primary step for all Ayurvedic Vaidyas is to learn a person’s Prakruti and how the tridoshas affect the skin. The Vaidya ascertains if the Agni (digestive fire) is affecting digestion and metabolism, causing the buildup of waste matter called Ama. Incorrect food habits and diet cause Ama – one of the leading causes of Acne and skin discolouration.

Does meditation help in getting rid of acne naturally?

Reply

Mi.bo.so. team

Yes, meditation calms the mind and reduces stress. Any abnormality in the body gets aggravated due to stress, irrespective of your body’s Prakruti. Once you get into the habit of practising meditation, you destress yourself and are in a much better state of mind.
Every acne case is different and may require a specific and extensive treatment approach such as vamana, raktamokshana, virechana, nasya, etc., which an expert Ayurvedic Vaidya can only recommend.
We suggest getting the experts advice on this for better results.

Yes, Ayurvedic skin treatment differs according to your body’s Prakruti, which also states your skin type.
So any Ayurvedic treatment you get is customised as per your skin and your Prakruti.
